This time of year is always filled with mixed emotions—a little nostalgia for the past 12 months, a lot of hope for the future, and that unmistakable queasiness that often accompanies awkward family gatherings. But this year, we can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for you and for the direction and financial progression of our credit union.
This past year, we made a point of helping people. In addition to our usual member programs and services, we tried to extend our reach to help even more members of our communities. Understanding that we all come from different backgrounds and walks of life—and that not all of us are on equal financial footing—we combined our collective strength as a credit union to reach out to young people, local students, and those trying to rebuild their credit.
We awarded Cash for College Scholarships. We helped high school students open new accounts, giving them a $100 head start on a successful financial future. We set up financial learning resources for young people in our community. And, we approved auto loans for people of all credit types—helping them get back on their feet with an affordable loan and a fresh start. In short (and true to Utah form), we spent much of the past year helping people find new financial strength. The result has been both significant for these individuals and the overall financial strength of our credit union, as we welcomed many new members to the Utah First family.
We plan to continue these programs in the coming year and we can’t wait to discover even more ways to be significant in your life and in the lives of our fellow community members in 2022. As always, we plan to work together with you and our other community partners to make Utah a great place to live and Utah First an important part of every member’s personal and financial growth. And, as it turns out, our efforts aren’t going unnoticed.
This past year, City Weekly named Utah First one of the top three financial institutions in Utah for small businesses—no doubt a result of our ongoing efforts to go the extra mile for small businesses during the pandemic and beyond. We were also named one of the 10 most outstanding credit unions in the country for an unprecedented seventh straight year—an honor that speaks to the financial stability of our members and credit union as a whole, and our commitment to community.
As we turn the page on another year, we hope you share our gratitude for the past and our optimism and enthusiasm for the future. We also hope you feel of our gratitude and appreciation for you. Although we can’t see all of you in person, we hope this message finds you well and serves as a reminder of the many good things to come for our credit union and our community. Happy holidays and thank you for being a valuable part of the Utah First family!
