Is there a better month than July? In this area of the world, you get warm weather, long sunny days, summer vacations, and all the holidays (Who doesn’t enjoy a good Bastille Day?). July may be the seventh month in the calendar year, but everyone knows it’s really number one—and it’s not even close. July is an amazing month, regardless, but if you live in Utah it’s just a little extra special. It’s practically a month-long celebration. Here are three reasons July in Utah can’t be beat.
Whether you’re a fan of fireworks, festivals, or parade floats, July 4 has a little something for everyone in Utah. This year, along the Wasatch Front alone, you had your choice of celebrating your independence in style, including live music at The Gateway, a watermelon eating contest at Heritage Park, or even a Spikeball Tournament in Sandy. Other celebrations outside the Salt Lake area included the famous Freedom Festival in Provo, the Park City Parade, and St. George’s Fourth of July Celebration. Even with some restrictions in place, you could still find a good fireworks show in cities of all sizes throughout the state. July 4 is the quintessential summer holiday and Utah knows how to celebrate summer.
One of the best things about July in Utah is that the Fourth is just a warmup to the state’s annual 24th of July celebration. You can hit repeat on almost everything described in the paragraph above, but the 24th has a decidedly western, hometown flare to its celebrations. This year, you can celebrate the founding of Utah at: This is the Place Heritage Park, the famous Days of ’47 parade, rodeo, and accompanying events, the Pioneer Day 5k Race, the Pioneer Days Festival, and the list goes on. You can even take in a Salt Lake Bees baseball game and see a scheduled fireworks show after dark at the stadium.
