Traditional IRA

Traditional IRAs are a popular way to save for your retirement. Your contributions to a Traditional IRA are tax-deferred, and they earn compounding interest until you withdraw the money. You’ll pay taxes at the time of withdrawal, but you’ll pay less if you drop into a lower tax bracket after retirement. Here’s what you  need to know about a Traditional IRA:

  • Save up to $5,000 a year individually until you’re 701/2 years old
  • Couples save up to $10,000 a year
  • Withdraw without penalties as early as 591/2 years old

Roth IRA

Unlike a Traditional IRA, a Roth IRA is taxed as income at the time of your contribution, but the money isn’t subject to taxes you withdraw. Just like a Traditional IRA, you can save up to $5,000 as an individual or $10,000 as a couple each year until you turn 701/2 years old.

After you have had your Roth IRA account for five years, you can withdraw all the funds, tax-free under one of the following circumstances:

  • You become 591/2 years old
  • You become disabled
  • You buy your first home
  • You are the beneficiary of a Roth IRA account of which the owner becomes deceased

Coverdell Education Savings Account

College isn’t cheap – start saving now for your child or grandchild’s future education. The Coverdell Education Savings Account allows you to save up to $2,000 a year for each child under 18 years old.

  • Contributions are not tax-deductible
  • Withdrawals are tax- and penalty-free when used for qualified education
  • Funds can be transferred to another child under age 18
Don't Worry, Your Money is Fine.
